Why CheckVIN exists
A used BMW tells its story through its service record. Most history checks never read it.
Generic vehicle history checks treat every make the same way: a little specification, maybe a theft flag and very little about what actually happens to a BMW over its life.
The things a BMW owner really wants to know were missing. What was done at each service. Whether the mileage adds up. Which technical campaigns are still open. Whether a clean-looking car had quietly been repaired after an accident.
CheckVIN was built to fill that gap by a small team of BMW enthusiasts, led by Cristian Petrescu. BMW is known for keeping a detailed digital record of what happens to its cars across the authorised service network, and CheckVIN brings that kind of depth to every buyer, aggregating, from multiple licensed data providers, the records that build up piece by piece as a car moves through workshops and inspections.
Since 2020, CheckVIN has helped more than 10,000 customers check a car properly before they commit, and walk away from plenty that were not what the listing claimed.
Where the data comes from
The vehicle information in every report is obtained through licensed third-party data providers, which aggregate records originating from authorised service centres and other lawful sources. CheckVIN does not access, query or integrate with BMW AG's internal databases, systems or infrastructure.
